What is sanctification?
Is sanctification a separate work of grace?
What happens when one is saved?
The word "sanctify" means to "set apart." As we hear truth preached and read God's Word, we learn more about how to set our self apart and yield to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. As we do this, we become more sanctified.
Sanctification is a continual and progressive experience as we walk in the truth.
- 1 John 3:2
- 2 Corinthians 3:18
Two things take place when we are saved: 1) The blood of Christ cleanses from all sin. 2) The Holy Spirit moves in with power to live free from sin.
- 1 John 1:17
- Romans 8:10; 6:4
A new life begins when we are "born of the Spirit."
The Spirit of God is a person. When one is saved (born again), he is born of the Spirit, possesses the Spirit, and is taught by the Spirit of God.
- John 14:26; 15:26; 16:13
- John 3:34 (when the italicized translators' words are omitted), "God giveth not the Spirit by measure."
